Burlap Flag DIY
red acrylic paint
blue acrylic paint
white acrylic paint
Measure out a rectangle of burlap 36″ x 24″.
If you are going to hem it, allow for a two inch seam allowance.
Iron flat and trim off excess burlap.
Step 2: Hem burlap
If you want to hem the flag, iron a 2″ border around the edge and
stitch edge of burlap.
For a no-sew option, you can fringe burlap or
use fusible iron-on tape on the hem edge.
Step 3: Paint square in upper left corner
Using painters tape, mask off a square in the upper left corner.
Score edges of tape to burlap.
Using blue acrylic paint fill in the square.
Remove tape immediately and let dry.
Step 4: Tape off stripes
To measure stripes, place two pieces of painters tape
in alternating rows to create stripes.
Paint red acrylic paint between stripes of painters tape.
Immediate remove tape and let dry.
Step 5: Paint star in blue rectangle
Print a copy of a star onto a piece of paper.
Cut out star leaving outline.
Tape star to middle of blue rectangle and paint with
white acrylic paint.
Remove star outline and let dry.
Move to Kentucky.
Find an old barn and create a little bit of Americana in the bluegrass countryside.
Happy early Fourth to you! :)
